Control units for flame treatment systems

High-quality control units are a basic prerequisite for achieving optimum and reproducible results with a short treatment time when surface activation is achieved by means of flame treatment. With our two control unit series, we cover almost all applications.

The right control unit for every requirement

Our control units have separate housings for electrical and pneumatic components. There, a defined gas-air mixture is generated and burned. The resulting flame plasma activates the surface. The intensity of the flame output can be steplessly regulated via a blower.

FTS series

Due to their modular design, the control units of the FTS series are suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. They are mainly used for the activation of plastic and metal moulded parts, glass, films and cardboard. Control is performed via the front panel of the device, on which all signal lights and buttons for power adjustment are clearly arranged.

Other features include:

  • Reproducible power adjustment using only one controller
  • Constant gas-air mixing ratio regardless of power
  • Measurement of the gas-air quantity with a variable area flow meter
  • Air supply optionally compressed air or blower
  • Power-controlled blowers
  • Electrical and mechanical part in separate housings
  • Use of commercially available gases (max. 100 mbar)
  • Flexible mixture hose
  • Single or dual electrode system for ignition/monitoring of the burners
  • Single or multi-burner operation is possible

EFT series

The control units of the EFT series with their PLC control are especially optimised for use in robot applications and the pre-treatment of films and cardboard. Air and gas flow are monitored with mass flow meters; all process parameters are digitally output and displayed on the touch panel. The power and mixture can also be adjusted via an external interface.

Other features include:

  • Precise thermoanemometric mass flow measurement of gas and air
  • Electronic monitoring of the mixing ratio
  • Digital display of all process parameters
  • Touchscreen for setting the process parameters on the operator terminal
  • Interface to external control system
  • Operation with commercially available gases (natural gas, propane, butane); max. 100 mbar
  • Stepless power setting/regulation
  • Single or multi-burner operation is possible
  • Recommended use for: Large series, larger working widths, process monitoring
  • Easy entry of the process data via the touch panel
  • Flexible treatment of the substrate thanks to customer and process-specific input values
  • Fail-safe control (F-CPU) for implementing the safety functions
  • Standard-compliant design of safety functions in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13577 (formerly DIN EN 746-2) and DIN EN 60204-1
  • Process data (burner power, mixture) are automatically adjusted based on the current web speed

Best results thanks to modern control units

Flame treatment has been a tried-and-tested method of physical surface activation for decades. However, in order to achieve optimal results on all substrates, it is necessary that the process is controlled by a reliable control unit.

With the control units of the FTS and EFT series, Arcotec offers you the optimal solution for a wide range of applications. Due to the modular design of our control units and the large number of available burner types and burner lengths, we can design a suitable pre-treatment system for almost every application.

Control units for in-line integration

The control units of both series are designed to be integrated into an existing or planned production line. This minimises the time required for surface activation. In addition, only air and process gases (e.g. natural gas) are required for pre-treatment. Aggressive primers, such as those used in wet chemical processes, can be replaced depending on the application.

If you are interested in a system for manual flame treatment, our FMT device is the best choice. We will be happy to advise you personally.

Why is pre-treatment important?

Many of the materials commonly used in industry today, such as polymer plastics, metal alloys, ceramics, paper or glass, have only a low surface energy. This means that adhesives and finishing coats, such as paints, varnishes or adhesives, do not adhere well to them. In addition, it is often not possible to completely remove unavoidable production-related surface contamination by washing.

In order to remedy this situation, surface activation of the respective substrates is necessary. This can be done, among other things, by means of flame treatment. This is a physical pre-treatment process that uses the flame plasma to break down the molecules on the substrate surface. In this way, paints and adhesives can chemically bind to them.

It all comes down to the control unit

However, in order to be able to carry out this process to a consistent quality, it is essential to have a high-quality control unit. We will be happy to work with you to find out which device is right for your requirements. Simply contact our sales department.
